BJP’s pick for Chatra files his nomination
RANCHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Kalicharan Singh filed his nomination papers from the Chatra Lok Sabha seat as nominations for three Lok Sabha seats - Hazaribag, Chatra, and Koderma going to elections in the fifth phase on May 20, started on Friday, officials said.
BJP state president Babulal Marandi, Leader of the Opposition Amar Bauri, and other senior leaders of the party accompanied Singh, who alSingh held a roadshow in the Chatra district headquarters before filing his nomination.
Later, the BJP leaders addressed a rally at Baba Ghar ground wherein they pledged to ensure the victory of Singh.
“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been working tirelessly for the past ten years for the betterment of the poor. Be it intense heat or storm, we need to ensure the maximum people come out to vote and ensure that Narendra Modi becomes prime minister for the third term,” said Jharkhand BJP chief Babulal Marandi, addressing the rally.
Speaking on the occasion,
Bauri said party workers ought to ensure the victory of the party candidate “who is a Bhumi Putra (local candidate)”.
Fielding and electing a local of the Chatra constituency has emerged as one of the biggest political narratives in the Chatra constituency. All Members of Parliament who have represented Chatra since Independence have been outsiders.
The BJP, this time, dropped its two-term MP Sunil Singh and has fielded Kalicharan Singh, who hails from Chatra.
Singh thanked Babulal Marandi for the opportunity to contest as the BJP candidate. “This has been a long-standing demand of the people. I promise that I will be available 24×7 for the betterment of people,” he added.
Singh is up against Congress’s KN Tripathi, a former MLA from Daltonganj seat in the neighbouring Palamu district.
However, Tripathi has been claiming that he, too, belongs to the Chatra constituency owing to the land records of his ancestors.
