Play on poet Suryamal Mishran performed in Kota
The play, ‘Katha Sukavi Suryamal Ki’, performed at the Kota Art Gallery, brought to life Rajasthan’s the 19th century poet, Suryamal Mishran. The play was based on life and literary works of Mishran. The play was staged under Theater fest titled Rang Rajasthan which commenced at Kota Art Gallery on Wednesday. Suryamal Mishran (1815-1868) hailed from Harna village of Bundi town and was a court poet who wrote epics like the Vansh Bhaskar, Veer Satsai and Ram Ranjat. Rajendra Panchal, the director who conceptualized the play, told HT that Mishran was a legend known for his ability to write classical poetry in different languages — Dingal, Pingal, Sanskrit, Hindi, Persian. “Suryamal Mishran is known as the Ved Vyas of Rajasthan for his epic ‘Vansh Bhaskar’, which he wrote over manuscripts for 16 years as a chronicle of the Haada Chauhan Dynasty of Bundi during reign of the then Maharao Raja Ramsingh. He left the epic incomplete after differences with the then king on ties with British Empire,” he said. Panchal said his theatre group wants to spread information about the poet while also highlighting the Hadauti region and its rich cultural heritage. “I have researched on Mishran for over six months before preparing a play on him,” he said.
