Spotted! Shooting stars in Delhi for films on social issues
We clicked actors Sonam Kapoor and Akshay Kumar shooting in Delhi for director R. Balki’s film Padman. The two were shooting inside Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport on Thursday and at the Indian Institute of Technology on Friday morning. The cast and crew are staying in Delhi for three days, before they wrap up their Delhi schedule. Padman is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a social entrepreneur from Coimbatore who invented low-cost sanitary napkins for village women. He also created grassroots mechanisms for raising awareness on traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India. On the second day of the shoot, the cast and crew of Padman shot in the In Lecture Theatre Complex of IIT. Actor Radhika Apte also joined the crew. The auditorium had only the crew and selected audience members.
Actor Ranvir Shorey is shooting in Delhi for his film Halka, which is about a boy’s discomfort with open defecation. The shoot is taking place at a slum near Pragati Madan. A set has been created outside Indraprastha metro station. The team has been shooting there for the past three or four days. Directed by I Am Kalam filmmaker Nila Madhab Panda, Halka — sort of a sequel to I Am Kalam — also stars Paoli Dam and Kumud Mishra. The word is that the director has also hired two people from the slum area as actors in the film. Ranvir says, “We will be shooting in Delhi till the end of [April]. Apart from [this place near] Pragati Maidan, there are a few other locations. The film has magical realism and the story is based on a socially relevant subject. I am playing the protagonist’s father.”
