‘I am getting terrific roles to play’

- Pooja Sharma

Last year, Rishi Kapoor bagged awards across ceremonies for his role in Kapoor & Sons (2016). The veteran has displayed his range as an actor time and again with his ability to slip into myriad roles on screen. Kapoor will next be seen in a comedy film that co-stars Paresh Rawal. Talking about the comic elements in movies and on social media, he says, “Our sense of humour is very low. We laugh at someone who falls, or someone who is fat. Instead of helping someone who has fallen, people will laugh. I shout at those who do that and have corrected them. I think it is in our ethos. Even in some shows or films for that matter, the comedy is so crass. But I am sure it will change.” The senior actor is quite popular on Twitter for his candid and witty tweets. Ask him if he ever felt like quitting the medium owing to negative remarks and he says, “I must have blocked more than 25,000 people [handles]. I don’t believe in quitting. If there is something offensive; I will block them. Now I have understood the game. I was an amateur when I started, now I have learnt the ropes. However, I did find some constructive critics too, apart from the admirers.” The Agneepath (2012) actor has also dabbled into film direction with Aa Ab Laut Chalen (1999). Would he like to work behind the camera again? “I have been asked this question a lot. But where is the time? My first love is acting. To direct a film, one needs to have ample patience and peace, which I don’t have now. I am happy acting even in my second innings. I am getting terrific roles to play. Not to sound pompous, but I don’t think I am doing a bad job even in my second innings as an actor. I am quite proud of my body of work. Earlier, I was majorly doing love stories,” says Kapoor, who is now keen on exploring a variety of characters on celluloid.
