Raima Sen ready for second innings in Bollywood

- Monika Rawal Kukreja

Actor Raima Sen (right) had a packed last year. She shot for five films that will release this year. While one of them is a love story with a twist alongside actor Prateik Babbar; second one with actor Kunal Roy Kapur is a comedy with a social message. She’ll also be seen playing the wife of a suspected terrorist in a film, which is about the attacks on Sankat Mochan temple in 2006. Finally, a crime thriller where she plays the role of a bar owner, also starring actor Kay Kay Menon. Ask her how she bagged these projects one after the other, Raima shares, “I was in Kolkata for three years; concentrating only on Bengali films. It was only after Bollywood Diaries released in February 2016 that people noticed me and I got these offers. I looked at it as my second innings in Bollywood after a sabbatical from Mumbai.” Ask her, how easy or difficult was it to play diverse roles, the actor replies, “Getting into a character’s skin one after the other is challenging, but for me it has been easy as all my directors were supportive.” “When I find a director passionate about his work; that’s my support. I’m not great with an average director, but I’m good with a good director,” the 37-year-old adds. Trying out varied genres has been an equally enjoyable journey for her. “Playing these roles brought out my inner actor. I worked with Kay Kay again after Honeymoon Travels (2007). I got to know Kunal Roy Kapur, who I had seen in Delhi Belly (2001) but I hadn’t worked with him. He’s a fantastic actor with a great sense of humour,” she says.
