It’s a film that every Indian should watch,” says producer Kamal Jain, talking about the Kangana Ranaut-starrer, that tells the story of the fearless Rani of Jhansi. Titled Manikarnika The Queen Of Jhansi, the film saw a grand launch at the Dashashwamedh Ghat in Varanasi on May 4, with Kangana taking a dip in the Ganges to seek blessing for what promises to be a magnum opus. “The film is backed by the best in business,” shares Jain pointing to the stellar lineup of writers, music makers and actors who have been chosen for the project. The film, to be directed by Telugu filmmaker Krish, is written by K V Vijayendra Prasad who has penned Bahubali and Bajrangi Bhaijaan. The lyrics and the dialogues have been written by Prasoon Joshi and Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy are making the music. The film seeks to trace the way India went on a downpath after the British arrived, and does that through the story of the queen of Jhansi, who is perhaps one of the bravest warriors of India’s freedom struggle. “The Rani of Jhansi died at the age of 29 and by then she was already a legend whose story lives on. We had to tell the story. I am fortunate to have Zee Studios as our partner to take the story to the world,” adds Jain. Sujay Kutty, business head, Zee Studios says, “Zee Studios is proud to be telling the story of Manikarnika The Queen of Jhansi. It is our endeavour to tell great stories and associate with top talent. It has been our MD Punit Goenka’s vision to tell this story like never seen before and to take it to audiences worldwide. We are happy to have partnered with Kamal Jain to create this epic.” Zee Studios presents in association with Kamal Jain, Manikarnika -The Rani of Jhansi, releasing 27 April 2018.
