‘People who don’t have kaam dhanda talk about nepotism’

- Monika Rawal Kukreja

Being Shakti Kapoor’s son and Shraddha Kapoor’s brother hasn’t apparently made much of a difference to actor Siddhanth Kapoor’s (right) career. Having acted in films such as Shootout at Wadala (2013) and Jazbaa (2015), he is still struggling to find a footing in the industry and is hopeful that his next film, will be a breakthrough. Asked why it took him so long so make a mark despite his father being a noted actor, Siddhanth says, “Well, that clearly means that nepotism [in Bollywood] is utter crap and I’m a live example of that. He [Shakti Kapoor] has never made a single call to any director or producer. I’ve made everything for myself on my own calibre.” In the film, Siddhanth essays the role of underworld don, Dawood Ibrahim, while Shraddha plays the role of Dawood’s sister, Haseena Parkar. Talking further on the raging nepotism debate, that was the talk of the industry after actor Kangana Ranaut accused filmmaker Karan Johar of being the flag-bearer of nepotism, Siddhanth says it’s the “dumbest thing he’s ever come across”. “People who don’t have any kaam dhanda talk about nepotism. I don’t believe in it. Someone from the industry saying that they get opportunities is like declaring that outsiders don’t have any scope here,” says the actor who has also been an assistant director for films such as Chup Chup Ke (2006), Dhol (2007), Bhagam Bhaag (2006) and Bhool Bhulaiya. (2007).
