NEED TO PROVE MY WORTH: KRITI
After spending a decade in showbiz, Kriti has realised that acting isn’t a hobby for her anymore
She started her career as a model before making her film debut with a Telugu movie in 2009 and Kriti Kharbanda (right) says her craft has matured over the years. “Earlier, I wasn’t as serious about acting as I am now, so the fear of failure wasn’t there. Now, I’m far more serious and I think I’ve realised that my career isn’t a hobby anymore. I’m dependent on it,” says Kriti, who made her Bollywood debut with Raaz Reboot (2016). The 26-year-old is aware that since she is not from a film family, her life in the industry wouldn’t be easy. “It is difficult to bag the kind of roles one would hope to do. Even today, I audition for roles because the makers aren’t sure if I will be able to do it or not. I don’t blame them. I know people think I’m an outsider but it’s an achievement to do three films in a short span of time. It’s difficult, but you need to prove yourself,” she says. With a career spanning nearly a decade, Kriti says she has realised that one of the most important things for an actor is to handle failures. “Even if you sulk after a failure, you have to put on that exterior that you are fine. You could be going through a turmoil in your personal life, but you have to put on that garb. Fortunately, for me, I’ve come to a point where I am not faking it.” The actor, who has a series of films lined up for release this year, has no qualms about accepting that she enjoys stardom. “As an actor, I’ve no limitation, I will do whatever excites me. For me it is going to take one movie to prove a point. I want people to take me seriously as an actor. But, I want to be a star and I won’t deny that. I want to be famous and there is nothing wrong with it.”
