Tulsi bats for social media; says it helps connect with fans

- Samarth Goyal

Owing to the innumerable instances of trolling, most celebrities have recently been talking about the downside of social media. However, singer Tulsi Kumar (left) feels that besides these negative aspects, social media platforms have actually helped musicians reach out to the right audience in the last few years. “10 years ago, a singer didn’t even know the release date of their songs. Now a singer or a musician knows everything about their song,” she says. “Not only do they get to know how many people listen and like it, they also know the number of people who don’t like a song,” she adds. She is also happy that social media gives musicians a chance to connect with their fans on a personal level. “You can have a one-on-one conversation with a listener and get to know their viewpoint on music. I think that’s important,” adds Tulsi who has sung popular hits such as Saiyan Superstar (Ek Paheli Leela, 2015) and Mera Highway Star (2016). According to Tulsi, another important development in the industry is music singles. “With singles, a musician gets the time and space to try different genres, which they won’t be able to do with an album,” she says. “Plus, an album takes time, and you aren’t in touch with the fans so often. With singles, you are more up-to-date with what the audience wants,” she says.
