‘I wish to be out of my comfort zone’

Be it Vicky Donor (2012), Dum Laga Ke Haisha (2015), or his recent back-to-back hits — Bareilly Ki Barfi and Shubh Mangal Saavdhan, Ayushmann Khurrana has been lapped up by audiences in his guynext-door avatars. But the actor is happy that his next film (directed by Sriram Raghavan) belongs to an “entirely different genre”. Stating that he’d love for directors to “take out something entirely radical” from him, Ayushmann says that he’s “glad that Sriram’s film is happening”, because it will “definitely make people see me in a different light”. The actor adds, “I’d love to work with directors from diverse genres and challenge myself as an actor. I am an urban guy. Whatever parts I’ve played till now aren’t me, as I am not such a desi guy (smiles). I, in fact, started out as a VJ for a music channel, who was a completely urban guy. I still haven’t done a film that explores my urban side.” Thanks to his hits, does he think his journey will be easier now? “Nothing is easy,” Ayushmann replies. “But I’m glad that I got such great options to choose from. Everybody is talented in this industry, so ultimately, it boils down to the choices.”
