Amaal wants a break from films

After composing music for Bollywood films such as MS Dhoni: An Untold Story (2016) and Noor, Amaal Mallik wants a breather from composing for films. The 27-year-old says he doesn’t want to get restricted to doing just that. “For movies, you have to stick to a story, and you work on the music according to the situation. Don’t get me wrong, I love composing for movies, and I think a lot of my music for films is the reason why people now know me. But, now I am getting back to the early days, where I would compose for projects other than movies,” says Amaal, whose upcoming projects include the fourth installment in the Golmaal franchise, Golmaal Again. “In the last two years, I have composed over 51 songs. I have slowly paced myself in movies, and I am pretty happy with what I have done there. Now, I have started composing for web based films, for video games. I love making sound tracks for video games, because it is a completely different challenge, and I get to do something different. I used to compose a lot of music for video games before I got into movies and I am slowly getting back to it,” says the music-composer. Independent music, too, is big on Amaal’s mind. “I composed Main Rahoon Ya Na Rahoon, with (singer) Armaan (Amaal’s younger brother). Emraan Hashmi featured in the video, so it looked like a short music film. I made it without any script or any situation in mind. Every artist wants to create something on their own, without any boundaries. I am working towards this,” he says.
