Amol Parashar hails technology for making it easier for actors

- Samarth Goyal

Actor Amol Parashar, who rose to fame with the web series Tripling and clearly has a lot to thank the internet for, feels that without digital platforms, it would be very difficult for aspiring actors to get a break in the industry. The 28-year-old actor, who will be playing the role of a rapper in an upcoming TV show, feels he wouldn’t have “survived”, if he was someone trying to join the industry in the nineties. “You had no smartphones or access to e-mail or SMS (in the 1990s). The stories I have heard about people trying to be a part of the industry (back then) are really scary, and I don’t think I would have been able to be a part of it then,” he says, adding that he is lucky to have entered the industry only a decade ago. “Then (before the internet), you didn’t have any way of getting in touch with the right people. You had to stand in the heat, wait in front of their offices, and do things that basically lowered your selfesteem. I am lucky that I got into the industry at a time when approaching producers and makers was easy,” he says. The Delhi-born actor, who will soon be seen in a Bollywood film, opposite Sumeet Vyas, his co-star from Tripling, and Swara Bhasker, feels that digital platforms have been a blessing for those aspiring to be a part of the entertainment industry. “The world has evolved in the last seven years, and technology is enabling the right people to find each other. There is no dearth of content or media, and anyone can get famous. A video going viral now can be either good, or absolutely bad, but it will be watched and talked about. I think that’s a great thing,” he says.
