A role that emotionally drained Param Singh

- Shreya Mukherjee

Actor Param Singh, who made his small screen debut with the show Parvarrish, rose to fame as Randhir Singh Shekhawat in Sadda Haq. His role of the brooding Rangeela in Ghulaam was also impactful, and Param says it was a difficult one to play, given its layers. “Rangeela was a good soul, yet his actions were just the opposite. But then there was a reason behind what he was doing. His personal life was in a mess. There were quite a few subtexts to this complicated character. In short, it was emotionally draining for me to play the role,” says the actor, who also had action scenes in the show. He feels “lucky to have got the opportunity to play such a diverse role.” Param agrees that he enjoys playing complicated characters, but that doesn’t mean that he isn’t open to light-hearted roles on the tube. “I’d love to do a comedy show. But not [the kind of] shows exploring over-the-top comedies, trying hard to make the audience laugh.” What’s next? The actor has just finished shooting for a short film, and is currently busy with a web series, also starring his Sadda Haq co-star Harshita Gaur. “I loved the story of the short film because the character I play is closer to reality. He’s someone who struggles really hard, and then an incident changes his life. In the web series, my character is that of a bestselling novelist. What I enjoyed the most is that both these characters are different from each other,” says Param.
