Is slip dress the lockdown LBD?
Seen on the likes of Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora and Kim Kardashian West, it’s safe to deduce that slip dresses are the quarantine LBDS. While Khan was seen lounging in a slinky number, Arora posted a picture of herself in a comfy slip. Not surprisingly, West opted for one in a look-at-me, bodycon style.
Back in the ’90s, the itsybitsy slip dress was reinstated into the mass consciousness by designers such as Calvin Klein and Narciso Rodriguez. And since quarantine is all about comfort over style, this ’90s staple makes absolute sense. Stylist Eshaa Amiin sees it as a versatile essential. “One could cinch it and opt for a body-con look like West, or embrace an anti-fit style like a maxi. Earlier, slip dresses were such a strong evening-wear statement,” says Amiin.
Designer Shruti Sancheti observes, “It is one transseasonal wardrobe staple that can be worn on its own for comfort, and can also be layered for warmth and a formal look. It is a perfect choice for quarantine in this sultry weather. One could either slip a T-shirt underneath or even step out wearing cigarette pants or leggings with it.”
Designer Nikita Mhaisalkar hails it as a super comfortable silhouette. “Wear it under an oversized blazer for that Zoom meeting or Instagram live! Style it with a scarf for a romantic candlelight dinner or layer with a white shirt for a relaxed sundowner in your balcony,” says Mhaisalkar.
