Second chance at XII boards: Students elated by CBSE call

- Aprajita Sharad

Awave of relief has hit students who weren’t satisfied with their final aggregate marks in board examination, basis their previous years’ performance. CBSE has now announced that it will conduct class 12 exams from August 16 to September 15. “This is a welcome step, but the panic of writing an exam amid the pandemic is real. If the third wave sets in, things might get difficult,” worries Shashank Gupta, a student from Delhi.

Students active in sports and extra curricular activities, unsatisfied with their marks calculated on the basis of alternative marking scheme, aren’t able to appear for ECA trials for college admission this year. Looking forward to this opportunity, Gaurav Mishra, a Gurugram-based student, says, “As sports trials have been cancelled by many universities, there is added pressure on us to score better. Those with ECA certificates were earlier admitted basis their trials. Now, they would be given admission basis their class 12 marks. So I’m happy to get another chance to improve my marksheet.”

Students who had started

Facebook groups to voice their concern are elated. “When it was announced that the board marks will be an aggregate of our previous years, it worried us. Usually in class 10, 11 and 12 we study to perform in our boards, and overlook mid term exams,” says Lucknow-based Gaurangna Bhatia.

Reportedly, the results of over 65,000 students have not been released. Exams will be conducted for private and second chance compartment students. The results haven’t been declared because of nonavailability of yearlong assessment details. “As a private school student, I’m happy about getting to sit for an offline exam. I was filled with anxiety for not having previous assessment to show as final marks for my board year,” says Divya Kumar, a student from Chennai.
