YO YO HONEY SINGH BOOKED FOR ALLEGED DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Married for a decade, the rapper’s wife has accused him of abuse and infidelity

In what has come as a shock for his fans, singer-rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh has been accused of alleged domestic violence by his wife, Shalini Talwar. News spread like wildfire on Tuesday, when it came to light that she had filed a case under Section 12 of the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, seeking protection and other reliefs.

In a complaint, (a copy of which is with HT City), Talwar has alleged “numerous incidents of physical, verbal, mental and emotional abuse”, by Hirdesh Singh (the rapper’s real name), his parents and his sister. Talwar has also accused him of alcoholism and adultery.

Singh got married in January 2011, and in 2014, he introduced his wife to the world on a reality show.

Singh and Talwar were contacted for comments, but they refused. Meanwhile, according to a source, at the time of going to press, the family plans to issue a statement.

However, Singh’s manager tells us there are no plans for a statement from his side anytime soon.

A source close to the couple reveals that Singh loved Talwar a lot. “He never had an affair. He was bipolar. She supported him a lot. He was depressed that they weren’t able to have a child,” the source says, adding that he had taken to the bottle: “Musicians are mostly inside studios. Nasha karte hain, music banate hain, and repeat.”

People who have been around the singer are taken aback by the news. Lil Golu, who has collaborated with Singh on songs such as Isse Kehte Hain Hip Hop and First Kiss, finds it “shocking” but is clueless about the truth. Singer-rapper Indeep Bakshi, who has also known Singh, says their conversations were only about music. “There hasn’t been any talk about his wife being troubled or the family being unhappy. When one is in limelight, everything becomes bigger. Of course, if something is wrong, it’s wrong... Baat dono side se honi chahiye,” he adds, hoping for fairness.
