Go low on calories with the GOLO diet

- Prerna Gauba Sibbal

Since the onset of the pandemic, healthy living has become an important goal for many. From keto to intermittent fasting — there are many diets for fitness freaks to choose from. GOLO is the latest to gain traction.

A calorie-limiting diet, GOLO’S eating plan supplies between 1,300 and 1,800 calories per day, through whole foods, like fruits, vegetables, meats, eggs and grains. It differs from other fad diets by managing hormone levels through supplements, exercise, and a nutrientdense diet.

When insulin isn’t doing its job of distributing energy to cells, the sugar stays in blood and the body stores the extra as fat. This diet aims to get insulin and blood sugar levels where they belong, helping you use energy efficiently. But, GOLO calls for the use of a proprietary supplement. With herbs and minerals, the supplements claims to aid weight loss by promoting insulin sensitivity. While any diet that relies on a pill is not very sustainable, the focus on whole real foods is easy to follow.

One can have protein-rich foods like eggs, meat, poultry, seafood, nuts, dairy products, and carbs in the form of berries, fruit, potatoes and whole grains. Veggies such as spinach, kale, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, celery, cucumbers, and fats in the form of olive oil, coconut oil, nuts, chia, and flaxseeds can be taken.
