CM asks newlyweds to stand against foeticide
JAIPUR: Chief minister Vasundhara Raje on Friday visited the Mahila Sadan, a government shelter home for destitute women, to bless the 22 couples who got married on Thursday.
She asked them to take a pledge against female foeticide and to give their daughters good education.
She went to Pratapnagar home to participate in the reception programme.
Union social justice and empowerment minister Thawar Chand Gehlot also wished the couples a happy married life.
Raje also handed over a cheque of `10,000 and the marriage certificate to each couple. She lauded the social justice and empowerment department’s scheme of bringing the destitute women in the mainstream by arranging their marriage. Raje spoke to the couples individually while handing over the marriage certificates.
Rajasthan’s social justice and empowerment minister Arun Chaturvedi, Jaipur MP Ram Charan Bohra, department’s principal secretary Sudarshan Sethi and director Ambreesh Kumar were also present on the occasion.
The philanthropists who helped in the marriage ceremony were also honoured. The Union minister gave certificates of gratitude to Om Prakash Yadav, Rakesh Jain, Jagdish Prasad Gupta, Dr DK Sharma, Vinod Bhatnagar, Abdul Rashid Kaghzi and Ashok Gothwal.
Marriage of 22 women, aged between 18 and 42 years, of Mahila Sadan was solemnised on Thursday. It was the highest number of women getting married from the shelter home in last 10 years.
`50-CRORE EQUIPMENT TO THE DISABLED
The Union government will distribute equipment worth `50 crore to physically challenged persons in next two months, said Union minister for social justice and empowerment Thawar Chand Gehlot on Friday.
Meanwhile, speaking as the chief guest at the reception, the minister added that the government was providing medical treatment to the disabled through composite regional centres and then imparting them training.
He said more than 300 women were being given motor driving training in Delhi to stop crimes against women.
