AFTER KILLING THREE CHILDREN, BARMER WOMAN JUMPS INTO WELL

BARMER: A 33-year-old woman in Barmer allegedly drowned her three children in a water tank and committed suicide by jumping into it on Tuesday night, police said.

Husband Banka Ram informed police that he was out all day for work and when he returned around 8pm, he could not find wife Reshma Devi and their three kids — seven-year-old Raju, Virdha, five, and Tiloka, who was three.

He apparently searched his home in Ishrol village but the exercise proved futile, prompting him to look for his family outside. About half-a-km from his house, and around midnight, Banka found his kids’ slippers close to a water tank, police said.

He rushed to Chohtan police station and informed how his family has been missing and he found footwear of his kids near the well. His worst fears came true when police fished out the bodies.

The station house officer, Omprakash Bishnoi, said the bodies were handed over to the family on Wednesday after autopsy.

It was not clear why Reshma Devi murdered her children and killed herself, or if somebody pushed them into the deep well. Preliminary police investigation suggested family dispute could be a reason that compelled the woman to take the extreme step.

IT WAS NOT CLEAR WHY RESHMA DEVI KILLED HERSELF AND THE KIDS OR IF SOMEBODY PUSHED THEM INTO THE WELL
