RACKET BUSTED Two decoy ops in Hanumangarh and Tonk lead to the arrests

JAIPUR: Five people, including one doctor, were arrested by the state PCPNDT cell for their alleged involvement in sex determination activities in two decoy operations.

The PCPNDT state appropriate authority Naveen Jain said the two decoy operations were conducted in Hanumangarh and Tonk. The Haryana government had information about sex determination racket in Hanumangarh and the arrests were made in a joint operation of Haryana and Rajasthan governments, said Jain.

Jain said that a woman from Sirsa in Haryana was asked to meet with three middlemen, who were involved with the sex determination business.

“The middlemen, identified as Sikander, Salim Khan and Ramesh Sharma, then took the woman to ‘Bikaner Imaging and Diagnostic Centre’ in HanumanIn garh, where a doctor named Preeti Singhal conducted the sonography. After the sonography, the woman was taken aside and the middlemen disclosed the sex of her child,” said Jain.

Jain added that officials from the PCPNDT cell nabbed the three middlemen and ₹22,000 was recovered from them. It was also learnt that the Singhal was not involved in the racket and didn’t know about the plans of the accused.

the second operation, the PCPNDT cell busted a sex determination racket in Tonk and arrested a private doctor and an Auxiliary nurse and Midwife (ANM), said Jain.

“We received information that ANM Renu Devi in Banetha sub-centre in Tonk was involved in the sex determination business. A decoy operation was set up, wherein a woman approached Renu Devi for help. Devi took her to ‘Agarwal Hospital’ to meet Dr Ashwini Kumar, who conducted the sex determination test,” said Jain. The doctor and ANM disclosed the sex of the child to the decoy.

He added that both Devi and Kumar have been arrested and ₹5,000 has been recovered from each of them.

This is the 18th decoy operation to bust sex determination rackets in the state since April this year. From 2009-2016, 48 decoy operations have been conducted in Rajasthan of which seven are inter-state operations.
