The 141-page charge sheet, filed in a PCPNDT court in Udaipur on Wednesday, gives the chilling account of why and how the accused, Divya Kothari, raped and killed the lawyer.

Ruchika Gupta, a mother of two children, was found brutally murdered in her flat number 72 of Orbit-1 apartment.

Initially, Kothari tried to mislead the police telling false stories, but investigations proved his involvement in the crime, said Mangi Lal, chief of Sukher police station.

Calling it “one of the most challenging cases” of his career, Lal said the forensic science laboratory (FSL) reports will play an important role in the case.

“The police have produced five FSL reports in the case,” the police station chief said.

“Besides, mobile locations and finger print and hand writing reports will also help the police to establish the crime.”

A day after the murder, Kothari, who lived in Ruchika’s neighbourhood and had a lust for her, reached the local police station and confessed to killing the woman, police said.

“He acted like a mentally ill person to mislead the police, but investigations revealed the entire plot of the accused, “police said.
