CET PRINCIPAL, REGISTRAR IN DOCK OVER CERTIFICATES
The principal and registrar of College of Engineering and Technology (CET) in Bikaner allegedly used “suspicious” certificates to secure their jobs, ab RTI activist has alleged..
The matter came to light after a complaint was lodged against their appointments with the state government as well as with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). The PMO has directed the chief secretary of Rajasthan to take appropriate action . The technical education department of Rajasthan has also launched a “high-level probe” to look into the authenticity of the documents and allegations made by Right to Information (RTI) activist Vijay Kumar Sharma”.
In his complaints, Sharma alleged that CET principal Ajit Singh Poonia and registrar Sanjay Kumar Bansal used forged documents to get their jobs. He also accused them of forgery in higher education. On his complaint, an expert committee of the Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, investigated the issue and found the certificates “suspicious”. The expert committee too recommended a high-level enquiry in the matter.
The report of the committee (HT has a copy) says that the postgraduate degrees obtained by Poonia were not awarded by the institutes recognised by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE). The committee also questioned his appointment as a reader in CET.
Similarly, the expert committee raised several questions over the period of experience and M Tech study of Bansal.
RTI activist Vijay Sharma told HT that Bansal submitted an experience certificate of an institute in Alwar, when he was pursuing full-time M Tech in Jaipur. Likewise, Poonia, a commerce graduate, did his Master’s in computer science from Rajasthan Vidyapeeth, Udaipur, which is not recognised by AICTE and M Tech from Institute of Advanced Studies in Education, which is also only a deemed university.
Sharma said that he approached the PMO after his repeated efforts to highlight the corruption and irregularity failed. Now, the chief secretary has been directed by the PMO to take appropriate action.
However, Poonia said, “There was nothing forged or fabricated about my qualifications and I’m ready to answer all questions.”
Bansal said, “I was selected after following a procedure; there were highly experienced and qualified members in the recruitment panel.”
