THE MEDICAL AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT HAS ORDERED A SURVEY IN THE KANSUA AREA FOLLOWING THE WOMAN’S DEATH

The number of deaths due to swine flu in the Kota region has reached three since January 1 this year with one more woman reported dead on Saturday.

Manju (41), a resident of Kansuwa area here, died at the New Medical College Hospital on Saturday morning, Kota Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) R K Lawaniya said.

She was admitted to the hospital on March 21 with “severe pneumonia” and later tested positive for H1N1 virus as well, Lawaniya said.

Dr Deepti Sharma, the nodal officer for H1N1 virus at the hospital, said that Manju was being treated for swine flu.

“The woman was put on ventilator as her condition was serious due to severe pneumonia and lung infection,” she said.

Meanwhile, the medical and health department has ordered for a survey in the Kansua area following the woman’s death.

Earlier, an elderly man of Kota and a pregnant woman of Baran died of the disease this year.

Safety measures to check the spread of H1N1 influenza virus have been put in place across the region, the CMHO said.

Swine flu (H1N1 influenza virus) is a respiratory disease caused by a strain of influenza virus that usually only infects pigs. The virus can be transmitted to humans.

In 2016, 197 people had tested positive for swine flu, out of which 43 people died.
