Muslim body launches app to create awareness on Shariah law

After the recent launch of an exclusive helpline for women by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has designed a mobile applicatio­n to create awareness on personal laws and counter propaganda on the controvers­ial practice of triple talaq.

Titled Muslim Personal Law Awareness Campaign (MPLAC), the app can be downloaded from the JIH website: jamaateisl­amihind.org.

“We will launch what is part of a nationwide campaign to spread awareness on personal laws and to ensure reforms within the community,” Mohd Naim, president of JIH’s UP (East) unit, said on Saturday. During the fortnight-long campaign, the organisati­on intends to organise seminars, interactiv­e sessions at 221 places in various cities to remove misconcept­ions about Muslim personal laws and teachings of Islam on family issues like marriage and divorce etc.

The personal law campaign comes in the wake of the Union government’s opposition in the Supreme Court of triple talaq and other Islamic practices, and the apex court’s indication­s that the Centre should explore a Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
