RCB’S TOTAL OF 49 IN JUST 9.4 OVERS IS THE LOWEST TOTAL IN THE HISTORY OF IPL, BEATING THE PREVIOUS MARK OF 58 BY ROYALS.

Before the start of Royal Challengers Bangalore’s match against Kolkata Knight Riders, April 23 was a happy date for Virat Kohli’s team. After the end of the match, April 23 will now be associated with nightmarish memories.

In their game against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, RCB were bowled out for a woeful 49 in pursuit of 131. None of the RCB batsmen got past double figures, with the scores of all the batsmen reading 7,0,1,8,9,8,2,0,2,5,0. After the match, skipper Kohli summed up the mood in the camp when he said, “Our worst batting performance, the worst of the IPL as well. Very hurtful for me to stand here and talk.”

RCB’s total of 49 in just 9.4 overs is the lowest total in the history of the Indian Premier League, beating the previous mark of 58 by Rajasthan Royals which was against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2009 Indian Premier League match in Cape Town, South Africa.

That it happened on April 23, 2017, would make this even more disappointing for on this very day in 2013, there were plenty of records broken. On April 23, 2013, RCB played Sahara Pune Warriors at the M Chinnaswamy stadium. It was the day Chris Gayle went ballistic as he blasted 175 off 66 balls. He notched up his century in just 30 balls and the knock included 13 fours and 17 sixes as RCB notched up 263/5.

Gayle’s score of 175 was the highest in T20 history, the total of 17 sixes was the most hit by a batsman in a T-20. Gayle also smashed the fastest 100 in limited-overs cricket by reaching to the landmark in just 30 balls while Royal Challengers Bangalore’s total of 263/5 remains the highest score by a team in Twenty20s.

On April 23 2013, RCB held the record for the highest team total in IPL history. On April 23, 2017, the tables have turned and Royal Challengers Bangalore now hold the record for the lowest total ever.
