POLICE IN ALWAR AND BHARATPUR DID NOT REGISTER AN FIR FOR MORE THAN SIX HOURS AFTER THE INCIDENT CITING CONFUSION OVER AREA JURISDICTION

Six people were killed and more than 40 injured on Tuesday when two groups of people clashed in Alwar’s Doroli village over a piece of land. Twelve of the injured were referred to a Jaipur hospital in a critical condition.

Four people – Premvati Devi, Bahadur Singh, Nannu Singh and Karan Singh – were shot dead in the clash. Their bodies were sent to the mortuary of government primary health centre in Kherli in Alwar. Two others succumbed on way to Jaipur.

During the conflict, one man opened fire at the other group, killing four on the spot. Several people suffered injuries in the ensuing clash.

Meanwhile, police in Alwar and Bharatpur did not register an FIR for more than six hours after the incident citing confusion over area of jurisdiction.

Bharatpur superintendent of police Kailash Chandra Bishnoi said the incident occurred at a farmland in Alwar around 11am. The two groups clashed over a piece of land situated in Bharatpur. “Our officers rushed to the scene of crime around 1pm after getting information about the incident from locals. We have not initiated action because the place is under Alwar police jurisdiction,” he said.

However, his counterpart in Alwar, Rahul Prakash, said the brawl happened in Doroli area of Alwar, but the place comes under the jurisdiction of Nadbai police of Bharatpur. “I am going to the spot myself to solve the issue of jurisdiction. An FIR will be registered by the Kherli police station of Alwar, if need be,” he said.

Sources said Kherli police has detained a few people in connection with the case. However, till 6pm, no FIR was registered in either of the police stations.

Twenty-five days after alleged cow vigilantes attacked Pehlu Khan and four others in Behror, leading to Khan’s death, police arrested Yogesh Khati, 30, the sixth to be held in the case so far.

SP Rahul Prakash said after Khan’s death, his two sons and two others were discharged from hospital and told by the police to return to Behror police station to record their statements. “They did not return to us,” he said.

“We have identified two more from the video and are trying to arrest them,” Prakash said. None of the six named in Khan’s dying declaration have been arrested.
