Rajasthan University Teachers’ Association (RUTA) decided on Tuesday to defer their call for a boycott of exam duties by another day considering their meeting with the vice chancellor.

The association had earlier called for the boycott in protest against the actions of the special operations group (SOG) of Rajasthan police in connection with paper leak cases.

The SOG arrested four professors of the university, one retired professor and two other employees last week, and questioned several others regarding examination paper leaks.

RUTA and other employees’ unions of the university will meet vice chancellor Rajeshwar Singh on Wednesday to raise the allegedly arbitrary actions of the SOG, association president Jayant Singh told HT.

“The outcome of the meeting will decide the further course of action,” he added.

The teachers had initially decided to boycott exam duties from Monday but deferred their call after having a word with the vice chancellor, who was out of station.

RUTA held a meeting with the non-teaching staff association, technical employees’ association, and fourth-grade employees’ association of the university, and decided to defer the boycott call and chalk out their course of action after meeting the vice chancellor.

“Everybody expressed concern over the situation in the meeting. We are all for the guilty getting punished, but the SOG should not randomly take away anybody for questioning. We just want that the atmosphere of fear should end,” said Jayant Singh.

He said they will request the vice chancellor to allot the SOG a room in the university where they can question the university employees instead of taking them to the SOG office. “Furthermore, RUTA is considering the option of extending legal help to those arrested by the SOG,” he added.

Amod Saxena, the president of the Rajasthan University Non Teaching Staff Association, said all employees are working under fear. “We just want the atmosphere to be made better,” said Saxena.
