Wanted man dies hours after arrest, cops say suicide

A 43-year-old man, who was wanted by the police in several cases, allegedly committed suicide in Jaipur after the cops caught up to him.

According to the police, the man has been identified as Satish Chandra and was wanted by the Jhalawar police in connection with a harassment case.

“A team had gone to Jaipur on Sunday evening to arrest Chandra, who has been absconding for the last eight years. When our officers went to his house in Jaisinghpu­ra and asked him to surrender, Chandra asked them to wait on the pretext of bringing clothes. He then came with the police but started fell ill midway,” said station house officer, Jhalra Patan, Heeral Saini.

“Chandra started vomiting and was admitted to the SMS Hospital where he died on Tuesday,” said Saini. The police said that apart from the harassment case, Chandra had several cases of cheating registered against him and has not visited his village in Raini, Alwar, for over 15 years.

“We have learnt that even after his parents’ death, Chandra had not gone to his village and has been in hiding,” said Ramkishan, station house officer, Brahmpuri police station, Jaipur.

A postmortem has been conducted, Ramkishan added.

“We have registered a case of suicide as we suspect that Chandra had consumed some kind of poison when he had gone to bring clothes. We are probing the case,” said the SHO. HTC
