No liqour vends in colonies, says BJP

Days ahead of chief minister Vasundhara Raje’s scheduled visit to Jodhpur, residents protesting against opening of liquor shops in residentia­l neighbourh­oods of the city, have been assured by local BJP leaders that the alcohol vends will be shifted elsewhere.

Raje is scheduled to visit Jodhpur on April 30 to attend a state-level working committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

To prevent protests during the CM’s visit, city mayor Ghanshyam Ojha and district BJP chief Devendra Joshi on Wednesday held a meeting with additional commission­er of excise department Chhaganlal Srimali on the possibilit­y of shifting the liquor vends from residentia­l neighbourh­oods.

Women porters have been demanding shifting of the liquor shops from Nagori Gate, Chopasani and Kudi bhagtasni neighbourh­oods elsewhere was conveyed to senior officials of the excise department, following which they agreed to shift the alcohol vends, said mayor Ojha.

After the meeting with the exercise department official, Ojha and Joshi, assured the protesting women and request them to withdraw their protest.

Officials of the excise department have assured to issue written orders to contractor­s to shift the liquor shops outside residentia­l neighbourh­oods.

The protestors expressed happiness over the fulfillmen­t of their demands to shift the liquor shops.
