Students protest against expulsion of nine from CU
Angry over the authorities of the Central University of Rajasthan expelling nine postgraduate students, their colleagues on Tuesday staged a demonstration in front of the varsity vice chancellor’s office, demanding their reinstatement.
The expulsion, university authorities, say was over a clash between them and the staff of a canteen on March 24 over bad food.
The issue snowballed into a larger student protest, defused only after the administration officials stepped in and promised students to act against staffers who took part in the brawl.
“We are with our brethren,” said Mahendra Gupta, a student.
Members of university student council expressing solidarity with the nine students said that the action of university administration expelling is most unjust over the issue of a brawl between students and mess attendants,” said Rakesh Mathur, a student council member.
Pro vice chancellor Aditya Kumar Gupta justified the action taken by the disciplinary committee of the university.
“It is wrong to say that the university administration has overstepped their powers,” he said
The expelled have the right left to appeal before the vice chancellor, who can revoke the order if he feels that the punishment is too harsh.” HTC
