Toppers’ mantra: Self-belief, self-discipline, regular classes

Those who topped the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)-Main 2017 attribute their success to self-discipline, self belief and not missing the classes at the school.

The results of the exam conducted for admission to various engineering colleges, including the premier Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), were declared by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Thursday

Kalpit Veerval, hailing from Udaipur in Rajasthan, who topped the exam with a perfect 100 per cent score says, “I used to study for five to six hours, never missed the classes, kept my confidence high.”

Son of a compounder father and teacher mother, Kalpit also attended coaching classes at Resonance Eduventure Private Limited. The 17-year-old says he utilized his smartphone for gathering information related to the JEE rather than spending time on social media.

Vishwajeet, who scored all India rank (AIR) 5, says, “I went by the NCERT books for the preparing for Physics and Chemistry for the JEE Mains.

Vishwajeet, who scored 345 out of total 360 marks, attends coaching classes at Resonance. He says he regularly revised class notes and actively took part in preparatory tests for the JEE. Vishwajeet’s father Rakesh Aggarwal is a businessman and mother Ranjana is a housewife.

Rawal Vedant Sanjay, who secured AIR 4, belongs to Ahmedabad and attended coaching classes at Allen Career Institute in Kota. He says he studies for seven hours and gave priority to coaching class homework and syllabus revision. He wants to pursue computer science at IITMumbai. “I want to go into research in future,” he said.

Ananya Sharma, another student of Allen Career Institute, who secured AIR 10, says, “I went for self study and studied for up to nine hours a day.” His father Amit Sharma is a doctor while mother Archana Sharma is a homemaker. Ananya too wants to pursue computer science at IIT-Mumbai. “I want to establish my own company in future,” he said.

Abhay Goyal, who scored AIR 12, says homework and revision are the keys to his success. “I kept focus on the homework and revision of whatever was taught in the coaching classes,” says Abhay, a Bharuch native who attended coaching at Allen Career Institute. Abhay’s father, Pushpendra is a manager in a private company while mother Ekta Goyal is a homemaker.
