Raped, 5-year-old undergoes surgery, accused on the run

A five-year old girl, who was allegedly raped by her neighbour on Thursday, underwent a critical surgery on Friday at JK Lone hospital. Her condition is said to be stable.

Babu (name changed), father of the victim and resident of a village in Jaipur district said, “My daughter was on her way to her uncle’s house, when a neighbour caught hold of her and raped her. I was working in field and got the news only a while later.”

He said the incident took place in the afternoon and the girl was brought to JK Lone hospital in Jaipur in the evening, he added.

The police said that they have identified the accused as Ranjeet Saini (30) and he is currently absconding.

Babu has five children — four girls and a boy. The victim was the youngest.

Dr Ashok Gupta, medical superinten­dent of JK Lone hospital said the surgery was successful and her condition is stable.”

The victim’s aunt said there are marks of strangulat­ion on her neck. ”The surgery went for two hours and she is still unconsciou­s,” she added.

“In the preliminar­y investigat­ion we have learned that Saini took the girl on pretext of buying her biscuits and raped her. We have constitute­d several teams to arrest the accused, who is currently absconding,” said Bharatlal Meena, station house officer, Virat Nagar police station.

Following the incident, residents of Med village on Friday staged a protest near the panchayat building demanding closure of liquor shops in the area.

“We demand immediate arrest of the accused and closure of liquor shops,” alleged Santosh Modi, sarpanch, Med.

They called off the protest only after the police assured action against the accused.
