AB gives emotional speech at RCB event

With just two wins in 12 matches in the IPL, the mood in the Royal Challengers Bangalore camp is bound to be gloomy. The finalists last year were the first team to bow out this season and have been shoddy in all departments. The team morale is also at an all-time low with captain Virat Kohli himself admitting after the recent loss against Kings XI Punjab that nothing seems to be working for his team.

However, matches are meant to have a winner and a loser and at a recent event of the RCB, where the franchise was celebrating the completion of their 10 years in the tournament, AB de Villiers spoke of the same, urging his teammates to not get tworried about the disastrous campaign.

“It’s part of life to go through ups and downs. We all go through that in our life. I have a few quotes that I keep with myself to hold my head up when I go through some tough patches… I did share it with Travis and a few guys, who were trying to figure out with me where we’ve gone wrong in the season. It defines success,” de Villiers said while sharing the stage with captain Virat Kohli, Chris Gayle and Shane Watson.

He then went on to state a quote of American essayist and poet Ralph Waldo Emerson that read: “To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To make this world a better place; And to know that your life has affected someone’s life in a positive manner in one way or another. That is to have achieved success,” he said as the audience cheered him along. He didn’t read the entire quote though, but tried to convey his message in the simplest of manners.
