Money was spent to ensure defeat of Shivpal Yadav in the recent assembly election but yet he (Shivpal) won with margin of 52,000 votes from Jaswant Nagar

Calling on his supporters at an event in Mainpuri on Sunday, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav said the party has to work towards resolving issues that have come in the way of its functioning.

He blamed alliance with the Congress for the party’s poor performance in the assembly polls and said that his decision to make son Akhilesh Yadav the chief minister of the state was a ‘mistake’. “Things could have been different if I was the chief minister,” he said.

The 77-year-old leader also admitted that anger was the reason his brother Shivpal Yadav distanced himself from the party. Mulayam, however, did not make any mention of the Secular Morcha, the new front that Shivpal has announced to float in the next three months.

Extending his continued support to brother Shivpal and targeting elements working against the interests of the party, he said: “Money was spent to ensure defeat of Shivpal Yadav in the recent assembly election but yet he (Shivpal) won with margin of 52,000 votes from Jaswant Nagar.” Mulayam was here to unveil a statue of martyr Dharmendra Yadav in Junesa village in Karhal area.

“There were good schemes brought by Samajwadi Party rule but officials were given free hand to execute the plans for five years. No one paid heed to party leaders and MLAs and the masses felt neglected,” the Netaji stated.
