A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by one of the helpers working at her father’s business late on Saturday night.

The police said the incident happened when the victim and her mother were in the house.

“We received information that an injured girl, who was subjected to sexual violence, was taken to a hospital on Saturday night. We took the statements of her parents and registered a case before a search was initiated for the accused,” said Chenaram Bera, station house officer of Manak Chowk police station.

The accused was arrested on Sunday morning. “After searching for him for several hours, we located him near Chaura Rasta and arrested him. A case has been registered under section 376 (rape) of IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act,” said Bera.

The police didn’t reveal the name of the accused to protect the identity of the victim.

The incident, police said, took place when the father of the girl had sent the accused to his house for an errand.

“The father of the victim is engaged in a business of cutting gemstones and the 19-year-old accused works at the facility. On Saturday night, he was sent to the victim’s house by her father on an errand when he allegedly raped her,” said Bera.

“Late in the night, the parents of the girl noticed her bleeding and she was taken to a hospital. Based on the statements of her family, we registered a case and started investigation,” Bera said, adding that the condition of the victim was stable.

According to the home department data, 5,995 cases of sexual violence against young girls have been registered in Rajasthan in the last three years. Charge sheets have been filed in 4,946 cases. The government has taken no action against the investigating officers who failed to file charge sheets.
