BARC scientists deliver lectures at Mody University

three-day lecture series on ‘Radiation Technology and its Applicatio­ns’ was organised at Mody University of Science and Technology last week. Dr Gursharan Singh, ex-associate group director, Radio Chemistry and Isotope Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC), spoke about the use of radio isotopes in finding out leakage from long oil and gas pipelines and radiotrace­r in finding out the origin of water sources. Dr MGR Rajan, ex-head, Radiation Medicine Center, BARC, gave lectures on the use of radiation technology in diagnosis and cure of diseases such as cancer, thyroid and heart failure. The IIS University recently organised an award ceremony to felicitate the achievemen­ts of its students in academics and sports activities. Ritu Kedia, internatio­nal long-distance swimmer who has swum across the English Channel, was the chief guest on the occasion. Kedia also delivered a talk on the theme ‘Dare to Dream’, in which she said that hard work, will, motivation and support were the key factors that were instrument­al in her success. She gave away awards to 461 student achievers on the occasion. Dr Umesh Gupta, assistant professor, department of pharmacy, Central University of Rajasthan (CURAJ), Ajmer, has been selected for research stay for university academics and scientists award by DAAD academic exchange services, Germany, a release from the university said. Gupta was selected for the award because of his research work in the area of nanotechno­logy based drug delivery in the treatment of disorders and diseases.
