Jaydev Unadkat produced a maiden hat-trick over against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday as his side notched up their fourth consecutive win in the tournament to go up to the second spot in the Indian Premier League table.

The hosts required 13 runs to win the tie but were baffled by the brilliant over from Unadkat who became the third bowler in this IPL to claim a hat-trick. He also became the second bowler after James Faulkner to have two five-wicket hauls to his name in the IPL history.

He was vividly happy at the post-match interaction with Ben Stokes for the tournament’s official website. “It’s crazy. To go for some 20-21 runs in the last match in the last over, and to then come out here and defend 13 runs is something special. Keeping it simple is what has been working 30.50 9.38 19.50 18.47 6.84 16.19 - 5 well for all of us,” Unadkat said. “All of us have been helping each other; to take those wickets in the Powerplay, middle overs. At times I have taken those wickets, at times you (Stokes) have. Immy (Imran Tahir) bhai has been brilliant for us as well. I think taking those wickets throughout the innings is what has been helping me in the 2-5 5-13 death overs as well.”

Unadkat’s was also the third instance when a bowler managed to claim a maiden hat-trick over. Lasith Malinga had achieved the feat in 2015 while Samuel Badree managed a similar one this season against Mumbai Indians.

“To have been already through it, having been there, done that, you have the confidence in yourself, your skills,” Unadkat further added. “To bowl those cutters is something that has been working for me. I have been hit for some runs in the last game and some other games as well. But, as we talked in the meeting as well, just sticking to those plans and just doing what I am good at, bowling to my strengths has been working well. Really happy we defended that low-scoring total and have gone up in the points table.”
