State sports awards ceremony on May 15

chief minister Vasundhara Raje will give away the Maharana Pratap state sports awards after a gap of a decade at the Sawai Man Singh indoor stadium on May 15, an official said on Saturday.

Apart from the state sports awards, 2016 Rio Paralympic­s gold medalist Davendra Jhanjhanri­a will also be felicitate­d on the occasion, said Narayan Singh Shekhawat, secretary of Rajasthan state sports council.

The Maharana Pratap sports awards ceremony was last held in 2007. The state sports council will be giving away 41 Maharana Pratap and 13 Vashishta awards to the state’s top achievers in sports.

The awardees will receive a cash award of ₹ one lakh each.

Raje will felicitate Rio Paralympic­s gold medalist Jhanjhari by handing over a cash award of ₹ 75 lakh and an excellence certificat­e, said Shekhawat.

Apart from more three a dozen awards for excellence and the rising star awards will also be given to 2016 Arjuna awardee Rajat Chauhan.

Other rising star awardees who will be honoured at the ceremony include Apoorvi Chandela and Sandeep Singh Maan.

Olympian Khetara (Marathon), Sapna Poonia (Marathon) and the highest wicket taker for the state and Ranji skipper Pankaj Singh will also be honoured by the council.

The Rajasthan government has ordered a probe into alleged corruption and irregulari­ties in three technical education institutio­ns, including the government-run Engineerin­g Collage of Bikaner (ECB).

The state technical education department has formed a fivemember high level committee to examine the complaints of corruption and irregulari­ties in the recruitmen­t and functionin­g of three engineerin­g collages, said committee member MK Shrimali.

“The committee was formed by the state government to investigat­e the financial and administra­tive irregulari­ties and is collecting records and other documents for further proceeding­s,” he told HT.The committee has visited the ECB and collected documental evidences for further investigat­ion, he said.

The governor and chief minister offices have received a number of complaints about irregulari­ties , sources told HT.

The tenure of ECB principal Jai Prakash Bhamu is also under the scanner of the committee and the college has been asked to provide his service records.
