The Jaipur police on Saturday paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the serial blasts that shook the city 2008.

Led by commissioner of police Sanjay Agarwal, several highranking police officers paid tribute to the three policemen who died in the explosion nine years ago. The ceremony took place at the Kotwali police station on Saturday morning with the police commissioner paying floral tribute to the martyrs.

“Every year we pay tribute to the martyrs on this day. Their sacrifice will be always remembered by the people of Jaipur,” said Agarwal.

The blasts killed 60 people and injured over 200. The blasts took place in several areas like Badi Chaupar and Hanuman temple in Chandpol. The explosives were kept in tiffin boxes latched to the carriers of bicycles and the blasts were triggered by mobile phones.

“Ever since the blasts, we have taken a large array of precautions. Recently, the Abhay command centre was launched, which has bolstered security arrangements inside the Walled City. Now, we keep a close watch on various areas of the city through a large number of CCTV cameras,” Agarwal told HT.

A married woman was found hanging with her alleged lover on Saturday near Sinwara village in Amer area of Jaipur district.

The woman, Laxi Meena (21), married another man on May 7 and came back from her in-laws’ house in Morija village, near Chomu town, on Thursday.

On Friday evening, the woman eloped with Phoolchand Meena, her second cousin and of her age.

The police said Phoolchand had had a child marriage but it was not consummated.
