As many as 12 students committed suicide while three students survived suicide attempts in the state since the Madhya Pradesh state board class 10 and class 12 examination results were declared on Friday morning.

In the past six years, more than 1,100 school students have committed suicide in the state due to different reasons including scoring poor marks.

To stop these suicides, MP government had started a scheme ‘Ruk Jana Nahi’ two years ago but it has had very little impact on students.

Two siblings allegedly committed suicide in Khamariya area in Satna district. Rashmi Pandey,18, appeared in the examination for class 12 while her brother Deependra Pandey, 15, took class 10 exam.

In another case, a class 12 student, Naman Kabde, committed suicide by injecting himself with a poisonous substance as he scored lesser marks than expected. He was expecting at least 90% marks in class 12 but he got only 74%.

Another class 12 student from Jabalpur, Kanchan Dubey, committed suicide as she got a supplementary in a subject. She jumped in front of a moving train. Devendra from Balaghat consumed poison as he got failed in two subjects.

Class 12 students Tapish Miholiya from Bhind, Reena Verma from Satna, Pragya Singh Kushwaha from Gwalior, Laxmi Kewat from Guna and Sumit Bairagi from Indore ended their lives by hanging from the ceiling fans of their respective rooms.

Similarly, a class 10 students also committed suicide. Puneet Bagora from Indore and Pinki Prajapati from Tikamgarh ended their lives by hanging.

Another student, Sakshi Vajpayee, tried to commit suicide by consuming poison in Gwalior. Her condition is saidto be stable.

In Sidhi, two students Rajan Singh of class 12 and Rajeev Patel of class 10 consumed poison. They were rushed to a district hospital where their condition were stated to be stable.

Activists and psychologists said societal pressure to do well in studies was a major reason behind the spike.
