THE NABBED TERRORIST WAS TRYING TO SNEAK INTO INDIA WITH AN AIM OF CARRYING OUT ATTACK, OFFICIALS SAY

Hizbul Mujahideen (HuM) terrorist was apprehended by the first batallion of the Sashastra Seema Bal’s (SSB) Lucknow frontier on Saturday evening.

SSB said they nabbed 34-year old Naseer Ahmed aka Sadiq, who was trained by the militants operating in Banhial and adjoining area of Jammu and Kashmir

“Ahmed was residing in Pakistan since September, 2003. He was involved in many violent attacks against civilians and security forces including an attack on an STF camp. He was sent to India by his handler for a specific mission,” an SSB spokesperson said here.

Aiming to carry out a terrorist mission in India, Sadiq landed in Kathmandu on May 10 from Faisalabad (Pakistan) via Sharjah (UAE), along with his accomplice Mohd Shafi, the paramilitary force said.

From Kathmandu, the two parted ways and Naseer Ahmed boarded the bus to reach the Indo-Nepal Border, with the intention to sneak into the Indian territory.

Sadiq was nabbed by the SSB forces here when he attempted to sneak into the Indian frontiers from Nepal under the guise of a vendor selling carpets and Kashmiri shawls.

When SSB officials and Maharajganj district police interrogated him, Ahmed was unable to produce any documents to prove his identity. Subsequently on physical search, a Pakistani passport and identity card having address of village Lala Musa, tehsil Kharian, district Gujarat, state Punjab, (Pakistan) were recovered from his possession

According to officials, between November 2003 and January 2004, Ahmed received arms training at a place called Atak in Pakistan from Hizbul members as well as personnel of the ISI and Pakistan army with the aim of fighting with Indian security forces in Jammu and Kashmir

Sadiq was trained to operate weapons such as AK-47, Ak-56, SLR, Rocket Launcher (RPG7), assault rifle (G3 and G2) and grenades during his stint.

Ahmed informed interrogators that he used to preach Quran to Hizbul cadres during his stay at various camps
