RBSE results out, no merit list to avoid pressure on students
CLASS 12 results of science and commerce streams declared; girls outshine boys
Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) announced the result of class 12 of science and commerce streams on Monday. Girl’s outshone boys with a 93.4 and 95.5 pass percentage in science and commerce streams respectively. The pass percentage among boys was 90.03 (science) and 89.45 (commerce).
Departing from their policy, RBSE did not announce a merit list this year. “The practice will stop competition among schools and lessen the burden on students,” said board chairman BL Chudhary.
There are many states which do not have a merit list, added Chudhary.
Education minister Vasudev Devnani declared the results. “The state of education has improved in government schools in the last three years,” he said.
A total of 229351 science students appeared for the examination out of which (52466/65200) 80.46 % girls passed and 67.7% (164151/111134) boys passed with a first division. Similarly, in commerce, a total of 46,877 students appeared for the examina- tion. Out of which, 71.48 % girls and 44.59% boys passed with a first division.
“In science stream, students who scored the first division went up from 33.94% in 2014 to 57.51% in 2017. During the same period, students who scored 75% and above went up from 3.96% to 11.49 %,” said Devnani.
Similarly, in commerce stream, the percentage of students who scored 75% and above rose from 3.68% to 6.96% while during the same period the percent of students who got the first division increased from 29.06 % to 41.1%.
Elaborating about the decision not to announce merit list RBSE chairman BL Chudhary said, “Private schools lure students to by placing photographs of toppers on their hoardings… This arrangement will end unethical competition between different schools”, he added.
Chudhary denied adopting a percentile or grade system. “Students will get numbers as previous years,” said Chudhary.
Meanwhile, educationist opined that the new system will lessen the burden on students. “This will lessen stress among students and they will do their best without this burden,” said Dr Anil Dadhich, senior english lecturer, at Government College, Ajmer.
