Doctors at Lucknow hospital stole my kidney, says patient
...his family members have signed papers in which removal of kidney was written . PGI follows stringent rules when it comes to removing any organ. It’s a shame that some people keep coming out with false accusations
A 39-year- old resident of Barabanki has accused doctors of the Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS) of stealing his kidney when he went in for treatment of a kidney stone.
Sanjeev Kumar (39) resident of Dewkalia village has filed a petition in court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Barabanki, Kumar Prashant to punish the guilty. SGPGIMS administration however has rubbished the charges and said they are being made just to malign the image of the institute which is widely considered one of the best in country.
According to the complainant, he went to SGPGIMS for treatment of a 20mm kidney stone in April 2015. He was operated on August 23,2015 in PGI by the team of Dr Anish Srivastava, Dr Abhishek, Dr Dharmveer, Dr S Raj, Dr UP Singh, and Dr S Noonia. Kumar was discharged shortly thereafter.
Despite the operation, he continued to feel pain in the stomach area, so he kept on visiting the institute for treatment. He was referred to the gastroenterology department for further investigations. He got an ultrasound done in February this year and discovered that one of his kidneys was missing.
Sanjeev said that he immediately brought the matter into notice of SGPIMS administration; he met Barabanki district magistrate Roshan Jacob on February 9 with his plea to investigate the matter.
However, PGI administration has rubbished the charges .
SGPIMS director, professor Rakesh Kapoor said, “That man was told in advance that his kidney would be removed as it was non-functional. Had the kidney persisted in the body, his life would have been in danger. Not only that the kidney was send for biopsy, the report of same was shown to the family members , moreover his family members have signed the papers in which removal of kidney was written . PGI follows stringent rules when it comes to removing any organ. It’s a shame that some people instead of appreciating the good work of doctors to save life keep on coming out with false accusations.”
He added, “If false allegations continue then PGI doctors will have to think twice before operating any patient who don’t even understand what is good or bad for their body.”
