behaviour,” said Patil. He added that the camels seem to be doing fine in Ladakh.

The NRCC will bring a couple of double hump camels from Ladakh to Bikaner in winters to study them. “The temperature here is very high and the camels from Ladakh might not be able to withstand the heat if we bring them now. In winters, it’ll adapt itself to the conditions here and approach the summers gradually as it comes,” said Patil.

There are only a little over 200 double hump camels in the country. Their number plummeted to about 50 five years ago, the director said. Another dimension of the research is to find a utility for these camels which until now is being used only for tourist rides.

If the research proves to be successful, it will hugely improve resilience and climate adaptation among humans, he said.

Two unidentified men robbed a house in Vaishali Nagar on Tuesday afternoon by threatening the resident with a knife.

According to the police, the miscreants allegedly gagged the elderly couple living in the house before decamping with cash and jewellery worth around ₹4 lakh.

“Two men entered the house around 2 pm on Tuesday posing as potential tenants. The men had visited the house on Saturday and Monday. At that time, the elderly couple, KC Garg and his wife, was at home along with their two granddaughters,” said assistant commissioner of police (Vaishali) Ramavtar Soni.

The two men had come earlier to do a recce and knew that the son and daughter-in-law would be at work, the police said.

“After entering the house, the men closed the door and asked for water. They then took out a knife and tied the elderly couple and gagged them,” said Soni.

The police said the men asked one of the couple’s granddaughters to show them where the money and jewellery was. “After the men threatened her with a knife, the girl took them to the room where the valuables were

When the elderly couple and their granddaughters later raised an alarm, the neighbours came to their rescue and notified the police, said officials.

The police said that a team from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) was brought to collect evidence.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the crime was wellplanned. We have initiated a search for them and are probing the matter,” said Soni.
