special pre-conception and pre-natal diagnostic technique (PCPNDT) court in Udaipur on Tuesday sent two middlemen, arrested by the state PCPNDT cell for their involvement in sex determination, to jail until June 3.

PCPNDT state appropriate authority Naveen Jain said following a tip-off from an informer about the duo, indentified as Vinod Sain and Manish Shrimali of their involvement in sex determination, an action plan was drawn up to nab the two, who were contacted through a decoy customer.

Sain demanded ₹ 25,000 to determine the sex of a feotus and an additional ₹ 10,000 for conducting an abortion in case of a female foetus, he said.

The middleman took an advance of ₹ 15,000 and asked to bring the pregnant woman-- a decoy--to Gulab Bagh gate on Monday.

The pregnant woman and an assistant met the duo at the scheduled time were asked to follow them.

The duo took the women and her assistant to Choudhary Hospital at sector 4 in Hiran Magri and got an ultrasound done.

Coming out of the hospital, the duo demanded ₹15,000 for abortion as the sex determination teast had show that it was a female foetus.

On a signal from the pregnant woman, a PCPDNT team led by additional superintendent of police Raghuveer Singh, that was waiting in the neighbourhood, arrested the duo and recovered the money, said Jain.

This was 71st decoy operation in the state.

Roads in Alwar city, which have been damaged during laying of sewer and water pipelines, will be repaired before June 20, district collector Rajan Vishal said on Tuesday.

“I have directed officials of the Rajasthan Urban Infrastructure Development Project, Urban Improvement Trust, Public Health Engineering Department, Public Works Department and Alwar municipal council to repair the roads before the onset of the rainy season,” he told reporters after meeting a delegation of representatives from the district Congress committee.

The collector went around the city and found the roads in a bad condition.

More than 400,000 people of Alwar city are troubled by potholed roads and dust kicked off by vehicles.

Congress representatives, led by district president Tika Ram Jully and senior vice-president Jagdish Beniwal, gave a memorandum to the collector, demanding repair in 10 days.

“If work is not started, the party will hold protests,” Jully said.

“It is shameful that government agencies made roads in front of BJP MLAs’ houses within a week after pipelines were laid, but have not bothered to repair other roads for more than two years.”
