Preliminary med report rules out rape, final results awaited
THEIR CLOTHES AND TISSUE SAMPLES WILL BE SENT TO THE FORENSIC LABORATORY IN LUCKNOW FOR FURTHER TESTS
A preliminary medical investigation has ruled out rape of four women in Greater Noida’s Jewar, Gautam Budh Nagar’s chief medical officer Dr Anurag Bhargav said on Friday evening.
This comes a day after the women alleged they were dragged to a field and gang-raped by a group of six robbers off the Yamuna Expressway early on Thursday. Their male relative was shot dead allegedly by the robbers while he was trying to save them.
Addressing a press conference in the presence of Noida district magistrate BN Singh and senior superintendent of police Love Kumar, Bhargav said doctors found no vaginal injury or presence of semen.
Their clothes and tissue samples will be sent to the forensic laboratory in Lucknow for further tests, results of which will be out in two to three weeks.
Love Kumar said the gang rape charge in the FIR will remain till final forensic results are declared.
“We have roped in cops from neighbouring states and are hopeful of cracking the case soon,” he told reporters.
The SSP said the motive of the incident — which has embarrassed the Uttar Pradesh government and underlined the state’s poor record on crimes against women — was robbery.
The Supreme Court refused on Friday early hearing of a public interest litigation (PIL) demanding constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) to investigate the riots Saharanpur where members of the upper caste community allegedly torched houses of Dalits.
A bench headed by LN Rao told he Petitioner’s lawyer that it found no reason for granting an immediate hearing to the matter. The bench said the case could be heard in July in due course.
