KEEN CONTEST Ruchir Modi, son of exIPL commissioner Lalit Modi, and Congress leader CP Joshi in fray for prez post

Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections were held peacefully on Monday; results will be declared after the Rajasthan High Court’s green signal.

Ruchir Modi, son of former IPL commissioner Lalit Modi, and former central minister CP Joshi contested for the RCA president’s post.

The Modi faction is claiming 19 votes, and the Joshi group 18; total votes are 33.

Office-bearers of all 33 district cricket associations voted. Baran district secretary Ramesh Gupta was the first to vote and Bharatput secretary Shatrudhan Tiwari voted three minutes before the polls ended.

The Bharatpur secretary was earlier allowed to vote but it was not counted. A bench of the chief justice and a judge ruled on Monday that Lokpal Gyansudha Mishra would decide on the Bharatpur secretary’s vote.

Mishra ordered that the Bharatpur secretary’s vote will be counted. The decision is seen as a boost to the Modi camp.

The Joshi camp reached the RCA Cricket Academy, where polls were held, in a bus and the Modi faction in a traveller.

The ballot box will be kept in the collectorate till the court’s decision.

Kaurali’s Shivcharan Mali, Sirohi’s Sanyam Lodha, Kota’s Amin Pathan, Dungarpur’s Harshvardan Singh and Jaipur’s Mohammed Iqbal reached the poll venue separately to vote. Their votes will decide the RCA’s new body for 2017-20.

We are getting 19 votes and confident of winning the RCA race. We are going to take the RCA charge again

“We are getting 19 votes and confident of winning the RCA race. We are going to take the RCA charge again,” said Mohammed.

“I cast my vote in favour of experience; Ruchir Modi has enough time,” Mali said. Amin Pathan did not open his cards; he does not support any camp openly.

Harshvardan Singh said he withdrew his name for the president’s post for the benefit of cricket. “Being a cricketer I am with youth,” he said, hinting at support to Ruchir Modi.

Former MLA and Sirohi’s Sanyam Lodha said, “Cricket will now be back on track.”

Sources said the results would be unexpected as cross-voting was possible.

While both Joshi faction and Modi Group are claiming victory, the court order dampened the spirits of supporters and the Ballot boxes were sealed until the court orders the result to be declared.

It was learned that the boxes were later taken to government treasury.

Meanwhile both the group may move court against the decision to keep the ballot boxes in the government treasury.
