Jaisalmer police freed a 35-year-old man, who had been tied to a tree by his family for four days allegedly for beating his wife.

The police said that the incident took place in Pokhran’s Khinvsar village on Tuesday morning and the family of the man, Dhana Ram, claims that he is mentally ill. “On Tuesday, we got information about the incident. At 8:30 am we went there and found Dhana Ram tied to a tree with a chain,” said Kishana Ram, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) at Pokhran police station.

The ASI then called his wife, who brought the keys. Ram lives with his mother while his wife and three children lived separately in the same village. After being freed, he was taken to a hospital where he was treated for swelling in his foot.

The police said that there were no serious injuries and the man was taken to the police station thereafter. The man will be sent to Jodhpur for medical tests.

The man was being fed food and water by the family since the past four days. Ram’s wife alleged that he used to beat her and unable to take the assault anymore she informed the family members who came and tied him to the tree.

A case has been booked against the man’s uncle, Dhula Ram, and his wife’s brother, Partapa Ram, for wrongful confinement and voluntarily causing hurt. The police are further investigating the matter and might book other members of the family.
