The Kota City police have nabbed a ‘con bride’ from Indore district in Madhya Pradesh for duping a Kota trader of ₹7 lakh cash and valuables after marrying him through forged identity.

Maya Thakur alias Maya Jain, 28, was arrested from her mother’s house at Lala ka Bagicha locality in Indore a couple of days ago, said Kunhadi police station circle inspector Srichand Singh on Saturday.

Singh said that Manoj Jain, 28, a trader living in Chanchal Vihar locality of Kota City, was looking for a Jain community bride when he came in contact with a tout Sanjay Thakur of Ujjain. Sanjay introduced Maya to Manoj as Maya Jain after forging her identity papers, including the Aadhaar card. Sanjay presented his relatives as Maya’s parents and siblings while fixing her wedding with Manoj. The victim paid ₹7 lakh to Sanjay for getting him married, the police said.

Maya and Manoj got married on January 23 this year, but 45 days later Maya ran away from Manoj’s house with ₹7 lakh cash and jewellery worth the same amount, said Singh. Later, Manoj filed an FIR . The Kota City police arrested Maya on June 8.

Singh said that Maya was already married to one Mukesh Thakur of Indore and has a daughter, but she has left them for money. Police have launched a hunt for Sanjay.

Meanwhile, Maya has been sent to two-day police remand.
