Jat community youths burnt an effigy of the state social welfare and women empowerment minister, Arun Chaturvedi in Bharatpur on Tuesday accusing him of blocking the quota process.

The Jats, demanding 5% reservation in government jobs under the other backward classes (OBC) category, have given an ultimatum to the state government to meet their demand by June 23.

On Tuesday, the Jat community youths, led by BharatpurDholpur Jat Aarakshan Sangharsh Samiti convenor Nem Singh, also shouted slogans against the minister.

They blamed Chaturvedi for “slowing down the process of quota.”

The community leaders have decided to launch a fresh agitation on the quota demand from June 23.

A member of the committee, Lakhan Hingoli said, “We have urged all public representatives including that of BJP and Congress to participate in the upcoming agitation. We will not forgive leaders, who belong to the community, but are not ready to cooperate for the quota demand.”

BJP MP from Bharatpur, Bahadur Koli said the state government was making sincere efforts to offer quota benefit for Jat community.

On August 10, 2015, the Rajasthan high court had quashed the 1999 state government’s quota order and asked the government to set up a commission to review the status of OBC community in Bharatpur and Dholpur districts in four months.
